Consumers Just as Likely to Purchase Headache Medicines After Findings on "Rebound" Headaches
Consumers less likely to take headache medicines after learning of findings

Flemington, NJ, May 7, 2010 – Results of a new national media study among 306 Americans revealed that the majority (62%) indicated that they were just as likely to buy over-the-counter headache medicines after viewing a video discussing recent findings that headache medicines can cause “rebound” headaches.

The study was conducted from May 6 to7 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of a video highlighting recent study findings which suggest that withdrawal symptoms such as “rebound” headaches can occur in people who take headache medicines too often. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

Among the viewers, 31% indicated that they were “less likely” or “much less likely” to buy over the counter medicines to treat headaches after viewing the video. Among the viewers who indicated that they were less likely to purchase headache medicine after viewing the video, 59% stated that they were less likely to purchase Tylenol. In addition, the likelihood of taking headache medicines when experiencing a headache, based on a 1-7 scale, decreased from an average score of 5.7 to a score of 4.9 after viewing the video.

it was very good information to know. I didn't know headache is related to over use of medicine. Might try to follow the advice to reduce the usage of over the counter medicine.

What I've learned about headaches with this survey has made me look at how I take medication for them. Thanks

Interesting and I think it's completely true. I personally have not taken a single over thecounter medication in over 30years and I'm doing fine!

This was so interesting to me in that I have been getting more and more headaches lately and keep taking over the counter meds and now I'm going to try to not take anything for several days and see if they lessen! Thanks!

This segment reinforces my uneasiness about taking pills. All drugs have side effects and sometimes we get so used to quickly treating symptoms we forget that. In the future, I will try more natural remedies.

Hi Areana-I came across your blog from a Pintrest link, and dicdeed we would be friends right away! I don't have any children, and I am way' older than you, but I did want to share some thoughts in case a long view from the future can be of help. I am sort of the opposite of you I am SUCH a dork, but I managed to marry a very cool guy.You might know someone like the kind of girl I was– awkward, and quiet. I love to read and although I am rather bright, I tend to underachieve. When I met my husband I was 23 and he was my boss' boss. So handsome – a former ski racer, had traveled the world and all his ex girlfriends were top management at Nordstrom's (read: Smart AND Beautiful). I still don't have a clue how I ever caught his attention. So even now, over 25 years later I still wake up every day grateful to have him by my side. I am still a total dork, and he is still super cool (he runs a motorcycle race team, and holds several motorcycle world speed records).Even now I manage to be on the wrong side of just about everything, and after all these years I still have to force myself to keep silent and listen to him, having learned that regardless of what I think and feel, he is totally right 99.9% of the time. I know that I annoy him some days, and like all marriages there have been times of thick and times of thin. But here is what I want to say to you – your dorky husband is the way he was made – he will never change, and you probably won't either – the best of times comes from knowing that you love him for who he is – ALL of him, and with that acceptance comes peace. It sounds like you have so much going on in your world right now, and he is having to just watch – it is a hard thing to do, especially when you love so much. I don't know if my rather unformed thoughts are helping at all, but I just felt like I could chime in from the other side to say the grateful feeling is a gift, it is mutual, and it is the best of life. ~B
