Political Parties Split on Bid by Attorney Generals to Sue Over Health Care Reform
Democrats and Republicans differ on motivation behind suit against federal government
Flemington, NJ, March 23, 2010 – A new media study among 336 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents who viewed a video clip of South Carolina’s Attorney General asserting that the health reform plan was unconstitutional, revealed that reactions to the idea were split among political parties.
The study was conducted during March 22-23 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a news clip discussing a movement by several state attorney generals to sue the federal government over passing the health care reform plan, which they believe is unconstitutional. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.
After viewing the video, the majority of Democrats (77%) reported that the health care reform plan did not violate the United States Constitution, while the majority of Republicans (87%) indicated that the plan does violate the constitution. Among Independents a slight majority (56%) reported that it did violate the constitution.
While the majority of Democrats (67%) reported that the Attorney General’s decision to sue the federal government was related to partisanship and a political party agenda, the majority of Republicans (83%) indicated that the decision was motivated by concerns that the bill is unconstitutional.

I think that the healthcare reform is unconstitutional and I am glad that they are going to sue!!!!
I don't consider it any more unconstituanal than, the money we pay in our tax deductions for medicare and social security. Goverment should just include medical insurance for all, just another tax.
I don't think that any plan can be 100% perfect. I think that the president has formulated a plan the best supports the people of the united states being able to obtain affordable health care. If a person practices preventative health care (the reason for the requirement) it is statistically proven to lower the incidence of catastrophic emergency medical treatment for otherwise routine treatments.
people don,t have too buy it if they can,t affored it he trying too make it more affored for them too be able too choose
This was a hard survey to answer, I'm for health insurance, but I find it distressing to think the Government is requiring people to have insurance and they will be penalized if they don't. Some people just don't have the money for insurance because of their loss of jobs. But, than there are people who just won't pay for insurance cause they don't want to.
Our country is leading down a very bad road. It isn't fair as to how this bill will make people pay.

I LOVE TO HAVE MY OWN CHOICE
The reasoning is just silly. We have to buy a lot of things that the government(s) require, whether federal or state. Auto insurance, worker's comp insurance, and we have to pay taxes. Would they rather the government decide which health care plan to purchase for them and then just tax them on it?
why are we require to purchase car insurance, property insurance, etc? Penalties are high if one do not have car insurance -correct? - then why there are no penalties for not having health insurance, but you want to walk in the hospital or ED and be served - why?

I bow down hmulby in the presence of such greatness.
The republicans should shut up unless they have some better ideas which they don't.
There are some great aspects of the bill, however without Tort reform it will not help.

how ugly and hate filled. how predictible. with the U.S. the only industrialized nation with no form of universal health care and currently 72nd in maternal death rates worldwide, it is OBVIOUS what these selfish, self-absorbed asses want to protect: the multi-millions handed out in "bonuses" to insurance company executives in give aways that would in ANY other incarnation be called larceny after trust. This gross abuse of every person, whether directly or indirectly (affected by others' inability to obtain health care) has got to stop. It will take some doing but it MUST be done. Can the government make people serve in the military? Can the government make people answer Census questions? Can the government make people file and pay taxes?
This bill and process is totally corrupt!
The health care system needs improvement within itself. The main problem is what is working in it. Government would be little help as it has been proven that they are just as wasteful. It's too soon with no balance on either side. This new health reform will only put more on the already heavily taxed middle class. That itself is unconstitutional.

If the doctors and rich people have to pay more into the raising of tax, then its a bad thing as far as they are concerned(of course they will find a loophole).
then everyone will get the best that money can buy...OOPS isn't that what the rich don't want us average and poor joes not to have?
thanks for this invitation. I like the concept of this, but it seems like they're trying to ram this bill down our throats and it isn't well thought out. seems like such a political party agenda in regards to our lawmakers voting. it's disgusting to me.
No one would argue that we can have a better way to do health care in the financial realm (we do have the best health care system in world). We do need reform (malprcatice and tort) and ways for those who cannot get medical care to get it.
this is not only unconstitutional , it is taxation without representation....
Should my tax dollars pay for an illness of someone who does not have health insurance. They have expanded Medicaid to help the really poor. How many poeple are going to wait until they really need it and then dicide to buy it. I believe that you have insurance for something tthat may happen. I do not wiat for a auto accident to happen then call for insurance. I didn't wait for winter storm damage to my house to buy insurance. I had it. If I didn't I couldn't put in a claim. It is time people pay their way if possible.
I think everyone needs some type of healthcare. However, I believe that the government should have provided a public option.
Obama will be a one-term president. He was only elected because of his race. He is NOT qualified to lead the United States of America.

I think the health care bill is a good start to be sure that everyone can get preventative medical care without resorting to using the emergency room as a personal doctor. We all end up paying for that.

i think the only reason pelosi and the other democrats wanted to pass the bill was to make a name for themselves and not really looking at the bill itsself. like cutting back on medicare and giving it to others. we elderly have to pay a high copay as it is and taking away from us is a crime in itsself and forcing this bill on us is not a way to go about it. and also fining business because they cant afford to buy insurance to offer to its employees will only make them have to let the employees go and shut down their business making more people out of jobs. obama needs to look at what he is doing to the economy and the deficit, we are up to our neck in deficit as it is now.
This type of medical reform must be stopped!
the rest of us should not have to pay for others that do not want to pay for health insurance
We are required to buy automobile insurance, why not health in surance. Can you explain the difference?

Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of good' options for real, unbisaed information as far as media outlets go. They are no longer in the game for real news, they're in it for entertainment and sensationalism. Your best source in this case is the records of the people you are reading articles about. What they've done speaks quite a bit more loudly than what they say, or what the media reports that they say.

I'm afraid that America will see ahotner period of republican government, and I am also afraid that that government will launch ahotner war (against Iran) before the next election.I'm European, but I've lived in the US under' Clinton and later for a short while under' the Bush administration. The latter reminded me of an ugly Banana republic dictatorship, fueled by fear and cheap propaganda.I won't say that things would significantly improve with Obama in the White House, but I think that at least they wouldn't get worse for America. As for the news' sources: People should be careful when they judge those real' information. This real' information depends heavily on who owns how many stocks of a publishing house and whether those stockholders have an agenda of their own. Usually political parties hold plenty of stock of relevant news and broadcasting enterprises, most of the time through holding companies which are owned by them, so their names won't appear immediately. This is also the case with private TV and radio stations, and it's the same in -any- country. And this is not a conspiracy theory, but a simple, verifiable fact.

The government requires US citizens to purchase auto insurance if we own and operate a vehicle, whats the difference?
government run anything is bad
What they don't say is that if people don't have insurance, we poor people end up paying for them. People that can't afford insurane will be helped. Why don't the the Republicans say that in their speeches.
This is all partisan nonsense. Why any government official would take a stance against inproving our broken system is beyond my comprehension. All talking points aside, I would like to know if these people understand that our President was a constituntional law professor for a good part of his career. Do they really think that he did not address the provisions of the bill for adherence to our constitution?
This is nothing more than the "party of no" pitching a fit because they cant win. They act like spoiled little children who were not voted out of office after years of failed policies and a decided lack of leadership that almost bankrupted this great nation.
It is time to move on, what is done is done and we will all benefit from it. The message they have to get is simple; there are ways to fix what is broken other than tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, which seems to be their answer for everything.
People should not be forced to buy anything.Any government intrusion violates the constitution.
