Doctors Taking a More Precautionary Approach to Protect Against H1N1 Virus
Physicians' level of concern regarding H1N1 remains elevated as Fall approaches

Flemington, NJ, September 8, 2009 – A new national study among 756 physicians revealed that physicians are taking a more precautionary approach to protect against the H1N1 virus, including washing their hands more frequently and avoiding crowded events.

The study was conducted during September 4-8 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion (MCIPO), as part of a series of studies which have been conducted since April to obtain physicians’ perceptions of the H1N1 virus. The studies are being conducted on a weekly basis to measure physicians’ personal and professional views on the issue.

Physicians’ level of concern continues to remain at an elevated state showing a slight increase when comparing to last’s month’s study conducted on August 25. The majority of doctors reported that the extensive media coverage surrounding the virus is appropriate, while more than one-third (36%) indicated that the widespread coverage is too much.

Among the findings:

“Please indicate how you have changed your behavior or life style since becoming aware of the H1N1 swine flu. Check all that apply.”
