Just as curious is the fact that non generics costs much more in the US than elsewhere in the world.
Big Pharm companies are just sour graping because generic drugs have eaten part of their profits.
Why can't they tell what the inactive ingredients are?

This is such an important issue. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. i don't care how much it costs.
The FDA must be adequately funded.
A great video in support of Brand name drugs. I did not know that information before hand.
I enjoyed this survey because it opened my eyes or enlightened me on how much overseas has cut in to the American way.
I think you have to be very careful with the side effects of any prescription medication, not just generics with substandard inactive ingredients.
Even with insurance, name brand drugs are too expensive. I have to pay a deductible before my insurance pays part of my drug cost, and even then I pay a higher co-pay for name brands. Cost is the major factor for me and I will always ask for generic and I think our government would not allow these things to happen. Considering the source of this news clip - Fox New - I am very skeptical.
I never use generic because they do not work for me.
Generic drugs are just two cheap .The difference in price is just two much.
I have noticed that generics do not work the same.
Thanks for the opportunity to take the survey. I agree that the drug companies need to have their own high standards when producing drugs. It would be too much to expect the FDA to be able to check out every drug from every company.
Thank you for the info! My husband is currently taking all kinds of medications. I have to watch and be careful for him.
Sometimes we have no say so in what we purchase, our insurance or lack thereof dicates.
good video...more people need to be aware of this. Unfortunately it won't make much difference because people will buy the cheapest form of a drug anyway.
i am more concerned about drugs being manufactured in india and china. The fact that they are generic is irrelevant to me. The factories over there just don't have the same standards to insure someone is not cutting corners.
I feel that if these generic drug manufacturers choose to make the product then that product should be held to the same exact standards as the name-brands. If they can't or won't, then they should be forced to shut down. Plus i feel the drugs should not be made overseas where standards are harder to keep an eye on.
can't afford brand name drugs
Very informative. Gave information about the problems with the less costly generic drug, but now you know how they can be cheaper, less tight rules of manufacture.
I am somewhat confused why our government doesnt restrict the production of drugs in foreign countries; at least limit there entri into the USA!
i did not know about the harmful effects that some generic drugs can have i will be more careful in the future about using generic drugs
Doesn't this go hand-in-hand with Nanny State ObamaCare? If anything, the FDA is holding up new drugs getting on the market, so I am not in favor of giving them any more power to be obstructive because ONE (1!!!) person who already has cancer has a sad story to tell.
I can't take FOX Noise seriously . . .
I am appaled that this is happening...why is it that everytime we have problems like this India and China are ALWAYS at the center of it somehow.
Perhaps a contrary opinion to the news report would provide some more balance?
unfortunately the insurance companies get to decide what drug is for me & ultimately they decide that i can have generic over brand nameas it saves them money. I f it were up to me i would more than likely take generic provided it worked the same as brand.
The problem also exists where you do not decide, but your insurance company like medicare pat D mandates generics and even if they are not mandated the insurance companies keep writing you to change to generics and show the letter to your doctor and if not your co-payments will go way up.Total extortion by the government, whats new?
Wow is all I can say. We shouldnt be getting any drugs overseas and yes the drug companies should be held responsible.
i became very concerned about generic drugs
I am skeptic about the video because it was made for a small local news show which immediately sends out alarms. These, have notoriously been known to be ads/hitjobs in certain cases to improve sales of certain products; therefore, it is unlikely for me to take any of this seriously. The fact that the video is also ridden with an anti-foreign sentiment also adds to this. It is as if it was made to emotionally appeal to the insecurity people have against third world countries and the names India and China. Since it also mentions the FDA in a positive light, i would not be surprised if it was a paid advert by some pharmaceutical group trying to influence the flow of goods and the control of markets by insinuating regulation and a stronger FDA would help out hte situation, therefore, phasing out these generic-brand enterprises. I am, extremely, skeptical.
this survey was frustrating not many places to add my neede comments this video inspires me to ask questions i would ask my family physician about safety on the drugs that i need, ask the pharmasyst
and write to the FDA and ask them question
i would be inspired to learn about the FDA
bye this video, and ask what can an ordinary citizen do to insure the safety of drugs in america
Very interesting clip. I see both the positives and negatives but for sure they need to be more heavily monitored. I dont want drugs coming from some mystery plant in China.
The video was very informative. I liked how it went well with the survey. It did make me think about generic drugs and how they can effect your healfh due to how they are not regulated like brand name drugs. However keeping that in mind each individual is different and their bodies may act differently, but I do feel more of an awareness about generic drugs.
I found this video very informing & it also answered some of the questions I've always had about genetic drugs.

That's really tihninkg out of the box. Thanks!
Very interesting. I will think more about buying generic now.
No change in my use of generic drug because I just can not afford brand named drugs. Stuck by limited funds.
Just one comment..The FDA stinks, there are guide lines in the UK..for the health of the public..like food dyes..and we have them here...and many more things we should not have..It is THEIR fault..
I consider Fox network to be extremely biased in their news reporting, and am skeptical of anything I hear from them.
need more fda agents in the field
This opened my eyes to some of the issues I never thought existed on the topic.
Frequently, consumers are required by their health plans to use generic drugs even if they would prefer not to.
this is a problem but may not be univerisally true of all drugs
if american companys werent so greedy there would be no need to go else where to get better prices
my insurance benefits sharply decrease if I use name brand drugs.
I enjoyed it and learned something from it. I am happy to hear the FDA is clamping down on the making of the generic drugs. I am angry that anyone would try to harm people by not following FDA rules.
Wow that was disturbing to know that generic drugs are made overseas...I did not know that...
I have anautoimmune disease and Bipolar Disorder. I also have adreanal Innsufficiency. These are chronic, life long disesase that require me to take up to 15 different medications. Due to the fact that I'm am permantly disabled, I am on Medicaid. Whenever a generic becomes available, Medicaid autmatically switches to it without even letting me know. I have had negative reactions to some of these, but I really don't have a chioce in the matter.
This was very interesting and informative. i am going to be a lot more careful about generic prescriptions now,and plan to ask lots of questions to my doctor when he prescribes something, and te pharmacist as well. thank you!
Generics are manufactured overseas to save money. I think that the pharmaceutical companies should bear the cost of inspections, not the taxpayer.
On my end going forward if I do get generic brands I will certainly keep an eye on where they are manufactured.
Good survey.

I have heard these warnings about generic drugs but until the price is more reasonable for brand names most people including myself will choose the drug promises to bring the best balance to physical and financial health. Generics need to be available but more ethical business practices and accountability standards can improve their safety.
Many of us are obligated by our health insurers to have prescriptions filled with generic medications--or pay the difference which in many cases is huge. That is the reason I use generics--and will probably continue to do so--despite the issues raised in the video and my skepticism that the FDA can adequately police foreign pharmaceutical companies.

More than anything, my insurance dictates what drug I purchase. I would like this to be a decision I make with my doctors, but the insurance companies are dictating and I do not like that at all. I would much rather take the name brand drug. If the decision were made by me and my insurance paid for it, I would choose the name brand EVERY time!
Insurance companies dont allow us to have anything other than generic meds.
Not too biased; go fox noise
I'm on disability and take 7 medications---so I'll definjately still take generics!!
I do not believe we should be forced to buy gernic drugs by insurance companies like they do. I have no choice but to buy gernic.
This was an eye opening news segment. It makes trust the FDA even less.
I see this story as an attempt by Fox News to scare the public. Obviously, we should first check on where the generic medications are manufactured before we take them, but I don't believe that it means that we should eliminate generics from medicine cabinets. Medications are so important that they should have the highest amount of regulation that's allowed in our society, regardless of where they're made. If foreign countries want to sell their drugs within our borders, they have to be subject to our regulations.
I question the accuracy of the report. I've been taking generic drugs for at least the last 10 years and have never experienced any ill effects and I seriously doubt that I will in the future. I've also checked where my generic drugs are made and they are all made in the U.S.
i also do not want generic drugs becuase they are made overseas and unregulated and the inactive ingredients may not work as well.
There should be no reason for generic drugs. The brand names should be set at affordable prices to begin with.
You have to understand the reason that I will continue to buy generics, even knowing this information. I can't afford to buy name brand drugs. My insurance will not pay for name brand drugs. The insurance companies and doctors all have us between a rock and a hard spot. And they are getting richer...
I am wondering why it is not known that generic drugs to not act in the same time frame that other drugs do.
That was a very interesting video. The drug insurance companies practically force us to use generic drugs and I am angered that they are manufactured overseas without adequate overseer.
the skepticism I felt during this survey was aimed at the FDA. I feel somewhat that the IMPORTERS of the drugs should be held responsible when someone is harmed. This would be a better way of policing their policies.

usually nothing. the aitcve ingredient is the one that makes the difference, and it is the same stuff whether generic or own brand. sometimes the generic ones are manufactured abroad, or for export (known as a parallell import) which makes them cheaper. this way the pharmacies make more of a profit and you still get your drugs either way. its not really a quality issue, though you might prefer the shape or even the taste- any differences will be purely cosmetic.

china is problay on one of the top 5 list of countries wanting to anilate the u.s. in anyway it can. i wouldnt even allow students here to go to colledge espically for medicne tech etc. let alone tours. they cannot be trusted. i'm susprized at the goverments leanancey with this, and as far as generic drugs r concerned why r they manufactured over seas? to save money? cut me a break. i never knew this and i am offened and i belieave people get sicker from them. i know this 1st hand. shame on u fda and shame on the goverment for allowing this to go on. just goes to showyou america the goverment dont give a crap about us, all they care abot is how much money they can put in their pockets while we suffer.
I had no idea...I always assumed generic drugs were the same as the name brand ones...except for the different names
I am so saddened that pharmaceutical companies and the FDA maintain such control over the types of medications and care that Americans use. Now we as consumers need to be aware of manufacturing safety. Which authority is looking out for the validity and the safety in any sense in either Brand name or generic drugs? Giving full confidence to brand name and slighting generic drugs does not instill security, nor can it help where price is concerned. Most endeavors need to be overseen either by us individually or by us as a public or by some agent concerned with a safeand fair outcome. Generic and brand drug manufacturing are not exceptions.
It sounds like a hit job on generic drugs by big Western drug companies
I feel that although the info is disturbing, many people are faced with no choice but to continue taking generics even though they may not be safe. this is because a lot of insurances only cover them, and they are more affordable. This is especially important since many people are having a harder time because of the economy.
wow this was a real eye opener If anyone had told me that there was a difference with brand name and generic drugs i would have argued so much. I am guilty myself of purchasing mainly generic drugs. Thanks for the insight. It can save lives
It was interesting to finally learn the difference between generic and normal drugs.

This video was very informative. The US population needs to hear more on this topic. If it were not for the high price of brand name drugs--I don't think anyone would use generic, especially after viewing this video!
Interesting Video. I have been cautious using generic drugs since my daughter had an allergic reaction to a generic drug. My daughter has allergies and I knew which drugs she could safely take. I switched to the generic version on one occasion and she began experiencing breathing problems and hives. The doctor could not offer any other explanation other than perhaps there was an ingredient in the generic that my daughter was allergic to.
a little scary and will pay more attention
I think you can have problems with drugs that aren't generic also. It depends on the individual
Its hard to know what the truth is with things coming from other countries
This made me overthink generic drugs, especially because the ones manufactured overseas are likely to cause death.
so, video slams generic drugs, video comprises of one sided scenario of these drugs.Keep in mind, not all generic drugs are manufactured outside the united states, even though this video wishes to project that image.i smell a hog. that hog is trying to project that all generics are bad, even though does not mention domestic made generics.
what is this topic, anti-universal healthcare mumbom jumbo.
this video does not project two sides of the generics sold in this country in my opinion. logically, would want the govt agencies to remove themselves off their butts and do their job too.
You must consider the source of the info (Fox). Also consider the number of people taking the number of generic prescriptions (only 81 deaths). With every new prescription, I am very aware of the effectivenes and side effects!
Media Scares do not affect me in the least.
