One Week after Viewing UK PSA, More Americans ‘Saying No' to Texting While Driving
PSA proves to be effective in reducing viewers' amount of texting and driving

Flemington, NJ, September 3, 2009 – Results from a new media study among 205 participants from a study last week on a UK public service announcement (PSA) promoting the dangers of texting and driving, revealed that 68% of participants have significantly reduced the amount of text messages while driving.

The follow-up study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on September 2, among participants in a study on August 25, on texting and driving. The study was conducted to obtain information regarding the long-term effect on viewers of a British PSA promoting the dangers of texting and driving.

One week after the initial study, viewers were asked if the video had an effect on their behavior regarding texting while driving in the past week. The overwhelming majority of viewers (85%) reported that in the last week, they had reduced the amount of text and mobile messages sent while driving as a result of the video.

Among the findings:

“In the past week, have you lessened the amount of texts and mobile messages sent while driving because of the video you were shown in this study (from August 25 on the dangers of texting and driving)?”

I wouldn't text while driving, it's not worth the risk of endangering myself or others.

This survey has not impacted the way I drive. I wish, thou, that all young people watch this video before they are allowed to drive.

Texting while driving or even making a phone call should be illegal everywhere. This law needs to be enforced also and not just put on the back burner, liike most cops do.

I guess I'm hoping that it won't happen to me. That I can look up before being distracted by texting. The message is dramatic, but I'm not sure it is getting through.

This was the most worthwhile study/survey that I have taken. It was also the only one that has significantly changed my behavior. Thank you for the opportunity to participate.
