Flemington, NJ, April 24, 2009 – A new national study among 309 supporters and non-supporters of same sex marriages revealed that the majority indicated that Perez Hilton’s reaction to Miss California in the recent Miss USA Pageant was unfair and inappropriate.
The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on April 23, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of the recent Miss USA Pageant, and Miss California's controversial response to a question on same sex marriages. To view agreement curves and detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.
“As expected, when viewing Miss California’s comments, those opposed to gay marriage were neutral or slightly negative regarding their levels of agreement, as measured by the automated response curves,” said Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research. “It was clear that based on this measure, those for and against gay marriages did not agree with the comments of Perez Hilton, as the curves dipped in the negative range for both segments,” explained Kessler.
The majority of non-supporters (84%) of same sex marriage reported that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, lost the crown because of her response to the question.

While viewing the video clip, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. The participants were also asked to respond to post-viewing questions.
