Residents should not be forced to evacuate, but emergency services should not be forced to resuce those who stay voluntarily. If you want to be a maverick, that's fine. Just don't whine when the flood waters force you to the roof tops and the winds knock down the walls of your home.

Amen. As an EMT who was there during Katrina and most recently Gustav, I totally agree. Trust me, we know you don't want to leave, but you have to realize if you stay, we are not allowed to come to your aid in any way until it is safe for us to do so. We have families at home that expect us to come home and don't think for a second that I would not heed a mandatory evacuation if my children and husband were going to be put in a dangerous situation because I did not want to leave. But, like the earlier poster said, it is ultimately your decision.

I don't think you can force anyone to do anything. I think it is the best for all involved, and I would hope someone
would move me out. Not use force, but help them to see the benifit of evacuating.

Good question, with the possibility of many various answers. But [U] I believe that no one should be forced to evacuate their towns as any time.[U] What that would do is to force people to leave their personal property and lives. Don't give in to terriorists either!

Residents should not be forced to evacuate. Its their decision, and they have many reasons for not doing so.. but.. perhaps some sort of waiver to sign, so the "powers that be" know that EMT's ,Police , etc, have seen and talked with those who choose not to leave.
In my 65 years of life, I have had to make many tough decisions, most were correct, some were not; ..but.. I learned from them all.. and.. I still don't want someone making decisions for me.. its called Learning !!
