Americans Happy about Changes in Caloric Content for Children's Meals at McDonalds
Majority of Americans believe national childhood obesity rate will not change
Flemington, NJ, August 1, 2011 – A new national study among 428 Americans revealed that an overwhelming majority of men (92%) and women (88%) support the new changes in caloric content to McDonald’s Happy Meals.
The study was conducted during July 28-31 by HCD Research to obtain Americans’ perceptions of a video in which a McDonald’s representative talks about the new healthy options for Happy Meals.
The majority of men (54%) and women (68%) indicated that McDonald’s new Happy Meals are heading in the right direction, as a healthy option. However, the majority of men (69%) and women (69%) also reported that the change in caloric content of Happy Meals will not change the national childhood obesity rate.

While viewing the video, participants indicated their perceived levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. The participants were also asked to respond to post-viewing questions.

I think that McDonalds is trying to compromise and do better.Parents take their children there to eat so I say if you do not want your child eating it then do not take them there you know what is best for your child.
I feel that parents are ultimately responsible for their childrens diet-a fast food restaurant should not be . It is great for them to offer healthier options and am happy that they are doing that but fast food companies are not responsible for the obesity rates in our society- lack of exercise and what everyone eats overall is.

That's a smart way of looknig at the world.
To put the blame on McDonald's is ridiculous! The parents are the ones who should be making the choices, not the children. Don't let the child drink soda and that eliminates a lot of unnecessary calories. Better eating habits start at home, with Mom & Dad.

A child is always going to make the choice of whether they care to eat the fruit, or not. Get rid of the toy and the happy meal will be less appealing. Of course, then McD's will not sell as many and that is not what they want.
I think also that Mc Donalds NEEDS to offer something besides Apples as a healthy alternative to fries. The meal choices for kids could be increased, instead of a burger or chicken. Come on! My child doesn't like to go here often as there is no fish or anything offered to her
It doesn't really solve the problem, but it is a step in the right direction.
I think McDonalds is trying and unless you have let a child eat all their meals at McDonalds, the weight loss won't be something heaven shaking but every little bit helps and taking out some of the things that make the food so fattening is a good start.

i think that there is just as much unhealthy foods in grocery stores restaraunts and other fast food places ect. we just need to teach our kids that its ok to treat ourselves once in a while, but need to balance our eating with healthy foods as well and excercise to burn off the fat we do eat.
I do not agree with the women in the video saying they promote healthy food options in their advertisements. I have yet to see an advertisement promoting happy meals with fruit.

And to think I was going to talk to someone in peorsn about this.
the childhood obesity rate is not about happy meals, I think its a lot more about bad food choices plus lack of exercise. kids need to drop the video game, cell phone, computer etc. and get more active. Unfortunately it comes down to convenience foods (loaded with sodium , fat and carbs) plus the fact that a good portion of this country can only afford food that is bad for you, if its healthy it costs more!

I don't eat at McDonald's with my 2 1/2, almost 3-year-old often, but after looking at the calorie content of small fries on some of their labeling, I didn't even want to know what the calorie count of just the little cheeseburger was. I felt guilty, minimally. Crazy enough, she would take carrots over fries almost any days or some kind of berry or yogurt, but that isn't offered. She always has a milk, but all of the kids' meal options are all greasy or fried. At least as an adult, you can choose a grilled chicken or salad type meal, but there's no main course option that's healthy for kids.
McDonald's have been progressing over the years of making more healthier choices of foods. McDonald's never use to have the calorie counters on there products before and know they have more healthier food choices. The consumers can't really complain of the happy meals to be more healthier for children it is there choice if they want there child to eat at a fast food restaurant with such a limited choice of healthy food.
