Chile miner rescue media coverage deemed "appropriate" by a majority of American
Media attention on Tiger Woods perceived as least appropriate

Flemington, NJ, October 25, 2010 – A new national media study among 1,166 Americans revealed that the majority of respondents indicated that Michael Jackson’s death and Tiger Wood’s affair is still receiving too much media coverage in comparison to other events such as the oil spill in the Gulf, Farrah Fawcett’s death and Gary Coleman’s death, the ground zero Mosque/community Center, and the trapped miners in Chile.

The study was conducted by HCD Research and reported on their MediaCurves.com® website during October 19-22, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of recent and past media events, with regard to the amount of media coverage they are receiving.

While the majority of respondents (63%) reported that Michael Jackson’s death is receiving too much media coverage, an even larger majority (82%) reported that the Tiger Woods affair is getting too much attention. Other topics like the oil spill in the gulf and the trapped miners in Chile have reported lower levels of coverage accounting for 17% and 14% respectively believing there was too much coverage of the event.

ITS IMPORTANT FOR US IN 2010 GOING INTO 2011 TO KNOW THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE CROSSED OVER MADE AN IMPACT IN OUR LIVES. ITS IMPORTANT FOR OTHERS TO KNOW THAT ALL PEOPLE ARE IMPORTANT AND RACISM AND BIGOTRY AND HATE FOR OTHER CULTURAL WAYS ARE WRONG. ITS TIME TO GO FROM HERE AND TO LET PEOPLE BE PEOPLE. I HAVE ALWAYS BACKED THOSE FROM SAG AND FROM AFTRA AND ARE FOLLOWING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD.

Way too much coverage of certain media topics because american main stream media has sunken into the cesspool for which it has revealed. Media nowadays has turned into the worst gossip show style news there is.If you want to know the actual news around the world you have to bypass the abc, nbc, cbs, cnn, etc and engage alternative news sources whom are tenfold better at having news covered as well as not being bias. Also, nothern and southern Sudan intend to explode within the next few months and regular us media are nowhere present to report the news.Shame on you greedy SOB

I was a journalism major in college and worked as a reported for several years. I was taught to strive for fair and balanced reporting. if you tell one side - you should also cover the other side. Otherwise you are editorializing. We don't have that today. Media is always trying to push their agenda which is why people lose faith in media and opt for talk radio shows because callers from both sides of an issue contribute. Deaths are news, but not contravesial unless it is a murder. Of all the topics you mentioned, the oil spill ( the OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY), and the mosque are the biggest news - and neither was covered fairly. The miners were news - but it was overdone...as shown by the resulting video game that is now out in their "honor". Farah, Gary and Michael died - they needed coverage, but M. J. was way out of line. It got boreing very quickly unless your were a manic fan of his. All things political - the mosque, Obama's sealed records, Sarah Palin's affiliations etc. need to have a fair and balanced and OPEN discussion in the media. Currently - none of them do. The media is nothing but agenda builders - and largely ignored.

I think the issue of the mosque in NYC is blown out of proportion by the media and that is just fanning the fire

The media needs to focus on real issues instead of celebrity deaths

People can choose what papers they read and what shows they watch. No one is forced to know more than they want to about any topic.
