Majority Believe "Throwing His Weight Around" Line in Anti Chris Christie Ad was not a Reference to His Physical Weight
Political parties say weight reference implied power and authority

Flemington, NJ, October 9, 2009 – A new media study among 300 New Jersey residents revealed that the majority of all political parties do not believe the “weight” reference in a recent anti Chris Christie ad was intended to reference Christie’s actual weight.

The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on October 8, among self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents to obtain their perceptions of a recent attack ad that targets Chris Christie, a candidate in the New Jersey Governor’s race.

A clear majority of all political parties reported that the “throwing his weight around” reference in the ad was implying “power and authority” rather than “weight” in the literal sense.

The majority of Democrats (59%) and Independents (62%) do not believe the reference to “weight” was inappropriate, while Republicans were split, with 44% of Republicans indicating that the reference was inappropriate and an equal amount (44%) reporting that it was appropriate.

Among the findings:

When the narrator of the ad mentions Chris Christie is “…throwing his weight around,” please indicate what you believe this was in reference to.

My husband was hit by a driver last February. The man fractured THREE of my husband's bones. Not even a ticket from the idiot police officer. I may not be delighted with Corzine but I'll be delighted to vote against a man who did what the asshole who hit my husband did.

We really need other candidates. Corzine is in a glass house.

I wish you would have included Chris Daggett in your survey.

I remain skepticle about ads like this. I want to hear about the issues and what the opposition wants to do to truely CHANGE the status quo.

Jon Corzine has proven to us who he is. Christie's record is available for review and I believe he deserves a chance to serve the needs of NJ.

This is the reaosn that NJ is so corrupted, People like Corzine turn away with wads of cash in the hands facing to the backs. Some how it is not wrong if you do not see them take it, but they sure know where to go when they need the corrupted help.

Why didn't you incluide Daggatt? He'll probably help win this contest by Corzine.

I watched the debtae yesterday, and yes, it was more or less a repeat of the first in terms of info.Question Do the organizations running the debtaes have any real say in the format? The simultaneous press conference model that is typically used doesn't allow for any interaction between the candidates, so you get the same thing answer, rebuttal, rebuttal, re-rebuttal; and you can almost predict how each part of the answer process will proceed. Bore-Ring. And although Daggett adds something to the mix, having him stand between Christie and Corzine, and in many cases having his answers inserted between them too, cuts down on the fireworks you'd get from a head-to-head contest. But given the time and place that the debtae was aired, how many people even knew it happened or watched outside the candidates' family and freinds? Corzine really screwed NJ voters by refusing to appear at the one debtae that would have been broadcast on network TV channels in early prime time during the week, and might have been viewed by at least 10% of the electorate. Shameful.

It is so ironic that Mr. Corzine would use these examples...makes me think of the old saying "people who live in glass houses (or Drumthwackets) should not throw stones."

- It's going to be a long and ugly four years beginning in January, and I'll be very seurpisrd if New Jersey isn't worse off when he leaves office. Corzine's inability to market his own successes, plus voter dissatisfaction amplified by the GOP talking doom and corruption, handed Christie his new job. He ran an all-negative campaign and hasn't revealed any concrete plans. Thanks for this picture. It indicates he's had at least a couple of makeover sessions since then. Speaking lessons should be next. His victory speech was rattled and repetitive, and drifted into a stump speech on automatic and a promise to turn Trenton upside down. Hardly a gracious winner. There's reasons New Jersey hasn't elected a Republican to statewide office for the past 12 years. Too bad it had to be him to break through.

Can you leave out the throwing his weight around line? It's obvious from looking at him that he's obese and gross-looking. No need to say anything that even comes close to pointing it out.

Attack ads like this are clear signs of percieved threats and desperation from the opponent

We all know the current governor has traffic issues, and most people want mercy if they can get it. Christie doesn't have his own set of rules. Take the commercial off the air.
