Majority report that McGwire's confession will hurt chances for Hall of Fame

Flemington, NJ, January 14, 2010 – A new media study among 303 sports fans viewing an interview with Mark McGwire discussing his steroid use revealed that the majority of respondents (81%) did not think McGwire could have broken the home run record without using steroids.

The study was conducted during January 12-13 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of an interview that features former major league baseball player Mark McGwire discussing his confession of steroid use. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

The majority of viewers (76%) also reported that McGwire’s confession will hurt his prospects of being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In addition, only 17% of viewers believed that McGwire used steroids only to assist in his injury recovery and prevention of future injuries.

“Our automated response curves revealed that viewers’ believability levels plummeted each time McGwire stated that he could have achieved the same performance without steroids and that he only took steroids for ‘health purposes,’” commented Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research.

Though I believe steroids helped McGuires performance, at least he has the guts and integrity to try to be honest about it. You can't say that for Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, etc.

Mark McGuire would have broken all the records with or without steroid use. He is an amazing athlete. It takes the gift of near perfect hand-eye coordination to connect with a baseball.

I would like to know why tell it now rather than saying yes I used steroids when he was directly asked that question? It looks as if he is looking to stop a bullet before it gets fired out of the gun, preimptive.Like David Letterman did. It's sad that he is going to disappoint alot of people.

Even though I believe that the steroids greatly enhanced Mark Mcguire's performance in baseball, I still believe he would've performed at pro level had he not been using steroids and I believe he is a talented athlete. I also believe that all pro athletes have either used steroids at some point in their career and/or are using them at present.

His crocodile tears when first making this admission certainly did not help his believability.

I think his record prior to steroid use, should back his statements concerning his present record.

I think Mark Mcquire is lying to himself saying that steriods didn't help him hit more home runs. I think that it has been proven steriod use gave baseball players a competitive edge over baseball players that didn't use steriods.
