Nearly Half Believe Tombs are Jesus' Family After Viewing Documentary

Flemington, NJ, March 5, 2007 — The results from a national focus group of Americans revealed that nearly half (48%) reported that the tombs shown in the documentary are “probably” Jesus’ family tombs aft viewing the documentary.

The study was conducted by mediacurves.com, a service of HCD Research, before and after the documentary was aired. The most recent study was conducted during March 4-5, to obtain Americans’ views after they watched the “The Lost Tomb of Jesus.” The documentary, which makes claims that in all probability the tomb of Jesus and his family has been found was directed by James Cameron and aired last night on the Discovery Channel.

Among the findings:

  • Prior to viewing the documentary, 46% of all responders indicated that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs compared to 48% who indicated that the tombs are not Jesus’ family. After viewing the documentary, 48% reported that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs compared to 42% who reported that the tombs are not Jesus’ family.
  • Among Christian respondents, prior to viewing the documentary, 43% reported that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs compared to 52% who reported that the tombs are not Jesus’ family. After viewing the documentary, 46% reported that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs compared to 44% who reported that the tombs are not Jesus’ family.
  • Among non-Christian respondents, prior to viewing the documentary, 51% reported that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs compared to 41% who reported that the tombs are not Jesus’ family.  After viewing the documentary, a similar number, 51% reported that the tombs are probably Jesus’ family tombs, and 38% reported that the tombs are not Jesus’ family.
