All parties need to look at who is responsible for this situation. One blames the other. I blame both. The congress and the President need to know who elected them and who they need to answer to-US the voters-as easy as you got in you can be voted OUT.

Obama and the Democrats are not sincere in wanting to cut federal spending because their political base benefits from and survives on federal spending.

If they shut down the government all congress and the president should be removed from office with $0 pay and forfeit any future retirement or medical expenses. It is only an excuse for a free vacation to go on TV and blame the other party.

I lean toward the Democratic Party but sometimes vote for other candidates from other parties and do feel that both parties are culpable for the current budget problems. There need to be more consensus between the parties to pass any bills which could help Americans.

The President should be forced to renounce his political party once in office. This way, he could mediate like he has been, without one side thinking that he is favoring the other.

His *sincerety* is not in doubt. His flexibility is the real issue. The whole problem is the two-party system, where any one side holds all the marbles & won't play unless the other kids agree to play by their rules. It's just patently stupid.

He is undoubtedly sincere in his belief that his party's cuts in spending are the way to go. I don't believe it for a minute. The only way we are going to cut spending is to chop the military budget to the bone and get out of these stupid wars. Boehner obviously disagrees. He also thinks the government should do nothing good for the people, like Medicare and Health Insurance. Typical Republican: nothing for the benefit of the people, everything for the benefit of business. I detest that attitude and will fight it tooth and nail for as long as I live.

It certainly is sad that our government has been reduced to this. We the people are paying while the "beltway" doesn't seem affected by the current economic conditions other than stepping up their rhetoric and placing blame. We do indeed have a spending problem. We the people have cutback but our elected officials just talk about it, while everything around us continues to cost more.

Stop talking and start cutting all the spending in areas the federal government does not belong. Start with education - give that responsibility back to the states / community.

Everyone wants spending cuts, reduced taxes, but people don't want it coming out of their interests. We talk about times being hard, which they are, but I wonder if we would have what it takes if it was WWII or the REAL depression again. We all need to get our own houses in order because I don't think we can count on the government at hand to do it. Unfortunately I think it will only get worse. Fewer tatoos, nails being done, and less partying won't hurt anyone. If you aren't guilty then you know I don't mean you. I just get tired of talking to people who say they don't know how they're going to pay their water bill, feed their kids, but then show me the tatoo they bought after the party. I think a similar mindset is what we're dealing with in the White House. Give up your stuff but don't take mine. We're all going to have to give things up. Just my opinion.
