Flemington, NJ, March 23, 2010 – A new media study among 336 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents who viewed a video clip of South Carolina’s Attorney General asserting that the health reform plan was unconstitutional, revealed that reactions to the idea were split among political parties.
The study was conducted during March 22-23 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a news clip discussing a movement by several state attorney generals to sue the federal government over passing the health care reform plan, which they believe is unconstitutional. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.
After viewing the video, the majority of Democrats (77%) reported that the health care reform plan did not violate the United States Constitution, while the majority of Republicans (87%) indicated that the plan does violate the constitution. Among Independents a slight majority (56%) reported that it did violate the constitution.
While the majority of Democrats (67%) reported that the Attorney General’s decision to sue the federal government was related to partisanship and a political party agenda, the majority of Republicans (83%) indicated that the decision was motivated by concerns that the bill is unconstitutional.
