Doctors are Supportive of Federal Funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Obama Lifts Ban on Embryonic Stem Cell Research
73% of physicians agree that federal funding for stem cell research will improve the United States' position as an innovator in health care

Flemington, NJ, March 10, 2009– A new national study conducted among 636 Physicians revealed that doctors are generally hopeful and supportive of President Obama’s lift on the ban for federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.  Doctors reported ‘inspiration’ as the emotion felt the most after viewing a video clip which included highlights from President Obama’s speech yesterday.  The majority of doctor respondents (84%) either somewhat or completely agreed that federal funding should be provided for embryonic stem cell research.

The study was conducted by HCD Research on March 9 to obtain physicians’ perceptions of President Obama’s speech yesterday in which he announced that federal funding would be provided for human embryonic stem cell research.

Most of our physician respondents (73%) felt that federal funding for this research would have a positive impact on the United States’ positioning as an innovator in health care.  88% of physicians also somewhat or completely agreed that this change in policy, which supports funding for stem cell research, would help the world of medicine in general.
