Bush's Energy Speech Impacts Voters' Perceptions on Gov't Energy Regulations

Comments Impact Significant Segments of Voters Towards Less Control

Flemington, NJ, June 19, 2008 – A national study conducted among 307 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that the Bush energy speech moved the perceptions of segments of voters to conclude policies are too strict for the oil industry.

The study was conducted by HCD Research and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion (MCIPO) during June 18-19 to obtain Americans’ perceptions of video segments of President Bush’s speech on energy yesterday.

While viewing segments of the speech, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were also asked pre- and post-viewing questions.
