Governor Bill Richardson's Endorsement of Obama Provides Little Boost Among Democrats and Independents

Slightly more than half of Democrats and less than half of independents feel endorsement helped

Flemington, NJ, March 21, 2008 – According to a new national study among 561 self-reported Democrats and Independents who were shown a video of  Bill Richardson endorsement of Senator Barak Obama, results suggest little change in support for the Illinois Senator.

The study was conducted by HCD Research on March 21, 2008, to obtain American’s’ views of a video in which Bill Richardson expresses his support for Senator Obama during a rally in Portland, Oregon today.

Key results:

  • Support for Obama increased less than 2% among Democrats and Independents who viewed a video of a portion of the statement.
  • 57% of Democrats and 49% of Independents indicated that they felt that the endorsement helped Senator Obama’s Campaign

While viewing segments of the video, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were asked pre- and post-viewing questions regarding their support for the Democratic presidential candidates. To view detailed results and agreement curves, go to: www.mediacurves.com.

Governor Richardson gave quite a speech on Sen.Obama's behalf. I am a republican and if I vote democratic this year it certainly vote for Obama over Senator Clinton. There would go our defnese budget. I think Obama really needs to distance himself from his church leader, and do it quickly!

I think that Bill Richardson represents a more moderate segment of the Democats than does Obama. I have always thought Richardson was an independent voice for the Democrats and his endorsement does carrry some weight for me. I think he would make an excellent running mate for Obama.
