Political Parties Say Obama's Speech Will Not Put Pastor's Racial Comments to Rest

Flemington, NJ, March 18, 2008 – A new national study among 709 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and independents, indicated that the majority of all political parties do not believe that Senator Obama’s speech will put to rest racial comments made by his former pastor.

The study was conducted by HCD Research earlier today to obtain Americans’ perceptions of video segments of a speech by Barack Obama to address racially charged comments made by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright and the racial divide in America.

While viewing segments of the speech, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were also asked pre- and post-viewing questions regarding their support for Barack Obama. To view detailed results and agreement curves, go to: www.mediacurves.com

Among the study findings:

Do you think Barack Obama’s speech put the issue surrounding Jeremiah Wright’s racial comments to rest?

  Democrats Republicans Independents
Yes 30% 17% 29%
No 56% 73% 58%
Don’t know 15% 10% 13%

Do you believe Barack Obama when he said he has never heard his former pastor make racial comments about white people or other ethnic groups during the 20 years that he has known Jeremiah Wright?

  Democrats Republicans Independents
Yes 36% 16% 25%
No 48% 68% 53%
Don’t know 17% 15% 22%

The Media Curves web site provides the media and general public with a venue to view Americans’ perceptions of popular and controversial media events and advertisements.

Why didn't you put John McCain as one of the choices to vote for, besides Hilary and Obama????? The results would have been more accurate.

I think there is alot of 'reverse' predjudice' in this country I find it amusing that people like Al sharpton havnt gone on TV to protest the words this bigotted pastor uses. Im am sure that every week his sermons are that racially charged and this wasnt some 'slip up' on the Reverends past

I feel that what is being done on-line and on television is being very unfair to Senator Obama. Why is no one questioning Hillary or John McCain about their faith? In a way, Senator Obama is being discriminated against because of his name. He is a Christian and has done many very good things for the people in Illinois. As to his name, I don't know about you but I had nothing to do with my name, that is something that was done by our parents. I started out supporting Hillary because I had not heard enough about Senator Obama. The way Hillary and Bill have handled this campaign, if she should get the nomination, I will vote for every office on the ballot except for President. She constantly says she would be ready on day one. If that is the case, then why have her taxes not been made public yet? If she is so organized, then why did the Governor of Pennsylvania, who happens to back Hillary, extend the time frame for getting her name on the ballot in Pennsylvania 2 days because she was not organized enough to get her paperwork in on time. Ready on DAY 1, I think not, she isn't ready now. I feel that Bill and Hillary are inserting Karl Rove politics into the Democratic Party which I really do not agree with. I would be happy to vote for a female candidate, but not this one.

Regarding the "Barack Obama Comments on Pastor Jeremiah Wright," I do not believes Mr. Obama. As an American, Pastor Wright's statements would have led me to leave the church immediately and cut all ties with the Pastor and the church. Wake up. Barack Obama cannot and should not even continue to run for President of the United States. WAKE UP, America!

He would be better off splitting from this man if he has any hopes of winning.

Barack probably won't get the presidency because he can't/won't succumb to the mud slinging going on by hillary....

I agree with some of the comments made by baracks pastor.....I believe barack obama is a very honest, trustworthy person, therefore-- i feel he won't get the presidency because he is not a "typical" lying, dirty politician.

I believe this pastor can only hurt Obama and he should sever all ties with the man. He is a horrible racist and very messed up in his thinking. He is what is wrong with America.

Its hard to believe someone could be a member of a church for so long and not apply all aspects of that church into their daily life.

I believe that the people who planned on voting for Barrack Hussein Obama will probably be changing their minds now that he has made his speech and typically showed all of us his true colors. I know he must believe in the reverends teachings and preachings or else he would not associate himself with that church. If this were white people talking against the blacks its called being racist, but when blacks talk against whites its called"because they came from slaves." When is the country ever going to stop feeling sorry and try to get along.Obama is not the person who should run for president. He says one thing and does the total opposite or we soon find out he does the opposite. If Obama stood for all color including whites, then he would never step into that church and listen to a pastor preach such utter nonsense.

It just floors me why his own preacher would come out against him. For some reason he must not care for Obama. Sure would like to know the real reason.

I agree that Obama should sever his ties to his pastor, because if he serves that church, it's like he backs what the church stands for and the opinions of the pastor,Everyone has the right to their opinion but maybe he should have kept it to himself.

I think he should get rid of his ties with his former pastor because the pastor makes him look bad. Especially when he demeaned white people.
