Americans Give Slight Edge to Clinton Health Care Plan; Perceive Obama's Plan as More Realistic

Vast majority View Clinton's Campaign Tactics as more Negative

Flemington, NJ, February 27, 2008 - A new national study among 454 self-reported Democrats and independents indicated that while Americans gave a slight edge to Senator Hillary Clinton’s health care plan, they perceived Senator Barack Obama’s plan as more realistic.

The communications research study was conducted today by HCD Research and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion to obtain Americans’ perceptions of candidates after viewing segments from the Democratic debate last night.

While viewing video segments of the debate, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were asked pre- and post-viewing questions regarding their opinions of the candidates. To view detailed results and agreement curves, go to: www.mediacurves.com

"What stands out most in the automated response curves is the lack of agreement indicating negative response by Independent males, commented Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research.  “The most salient example is their response to Senator Clinton’s comments about her perception of what she characterized as preferential treatment that Senator Obama has received by moderators in previous debates."

Among the study findings:

  • After viewing the segments on health care reform, among all respondents, 39% reported that the preferred Senator Clinton’s proposed health care plan, while 37% reported that they preferred Senator Obama’s health care plan and 25% preferred neither plan.

I am not a Democrat or Independent party at all. I am a Republican. I have to say that if I were given a choice to vote for the two candidates I just listened to and no qualified Republican candidate was running I would have to vote for Senator Obama. Barack Obama may be lacking years of experience but he seems to be genuine and focused on what he believes he can do to better this wonderful country of ours. Senator Clinton has a reputation already of being untruthful and underhanded. I would tend to not believe a word of what she said. I think we saw and thankfully survived 8 years of her and her "politics" already. Senator Obama seeks to unite all parties across the board. Senator Clinton has already demonstrated her disdain for the current President. If the election were today, and the only candidates were the ones mentioned above I would no choice but to vote for Senator Obama. I think that politicians need to stop slinging garbage at each other and really focus in detail on how they are going to make our wonderful country better. How our quality of living will be improved by electing them to office. It takes someone mature and wise to be the Commander In Chief. Resorting to underhandedness is neither and therefore has no place in our Oval Office.

I am Republican or Independent but after viewing and listening to video I would be much more likely to vote for Obama as he seems very straight forward and no double talk.. very impressed

Obama seems to be very straigh forward in terms of a healthcare plan. He seems to be honest than CLinton
