Public Increasingly Discontent over the Construction of New Mosque near Ground Zero

Construction Plans Perceived as Disrespectful Across Party Lines

Flemington, NJ, August 6, 2010 – Results of a new national study among 1,007 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that since late-May, Republicans and Independents were far less supportive of plans to build a mosque and Islamic community center near “ground zero,” with the majority of Republicans (70%, up from 63% in May) and Independents (49%, up from 39% in May) reporting that it was “not at all appropriate.”

The study was conducted on August 5th & 6th by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website. The purpose of the study was to obtain Americans’ perceptions of a New York community board’s approval of the construction of a 13-story mosque and Islamic community center. The mosque and community center are to be built near "ground zero," the site of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

Among political parties, 70% of Republicans reported that plans to build the mosque were “not at all appropriate,” compared to 34% of Democrats and 49% of Independents. The majority of all political parties reported that it was disrespectful to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks to build a mosque near ground zero.

Additionally, both females and males reporting that the plans to build the mosque and community center were disrespectful to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks increased from May with males up from 58% to 65% and females from 70% to 71%.

I think slowly America is waking up. It is not about religious tolerance. It is about knowing what is good and what is bad for America. We all know Islam is a religion that came into existence only to oppose the dominance of Christians. I don't say Christians are correct or US policies are correct. We are in no way correct. But even if we are wrong so what does it mean, do we allow our enemies to sit on our chest and laugh on our sufferings which in first place is caused by them. I don't support that US army should go and destroy any Muslim countries. I don't support that. Live and let live is my principle in a normal world. But we don't live in a normal world. We have war declared on US...... I hope the US authorities also understands that........
