Flemington, NJ, September 21, 2011 – A new national study among 1,166 self-reported Republicans, Democrats and Independents revealed that all parties indicated they were not in favor of requiring young women to receive HPV vaccinations after viewing comments made by U.S. Representative Michelle Bachmann.
The study was conducted by HCD Research during September 16-19, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of a video clip of the Today’s Show in which Michelle Bachmann explains her view of Texas Governor Rick Perry’s decision to issue an executive order mandating the HPV vaccine for young women.
After viewing Bachmann’s comments, the percentage of respondents who indicated that they were “not in favor” of mandated HPV vaccinations rose dramatically among all parties, increasing from 38% to 58% among Democrats, 50% to 70% among Republications and 52% to 66% among Independents.

While viewing the video, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were also asked pre- and post-viewing questions.
