Flemington, NJ, November 17, 2008 – A new national study among 181 Americans revealed that 42% of respondents have sacrificed their health to save money in the past year, and the majority (64%) reported that they would support affordable health insurance for all Americans.
The study was conducted by HCD Research from November 14-16 to obtain Americans’ perceptions of health care and their personal health initiatives in a struggling economy. To view agreement curves and detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.
Among those who have claimed to make a sacrifice: 82% reported they did not visit the doctor when they were sick; 62% did not visit the doctor for their annual check-up; 54% did not fill prescriptions; and 50% did not follow doctor instructions regarding recommended prescriptions, surgeries and procedures.
Responders also ranked the issue of health care as second most important after the issue of the economy. The rankings were based on a 7-point scale; 1 being “Not at all important” and 7 being “Extremely important.” Below are the average scores each issue received listed in order from most important to least important.
