Popular vote and Academy agree on Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor

Popular vote and Academy agree on Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor

Flemington, NJ, February 23, 2009 – A study conducted among 302 viewers after last month’s announcement of the 2009 Academy Award nominations revealed that the results differed from the actual Oscar winners at the Academy Awards last night.

The study was conducted by HCD Research on January 22 to obtain viewers’ perceptions of the 2009 Academy Award nominations. The results of the study were compared to the winners at last night’s 2009 Academy Awards Ceremony.

In the earlier study, viewers selected ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ as the winner in the category of Best Picture. However, the Academy selected ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ as the winner.  Danny Boyle took home the Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in the category of Best Director, yet the popular vote had Ron Howard as the winner for ‘Frost Nixon.’  The viewers’ selections also differed with the Academy vote in the Best Actor category. While the viewers selected Brad Pitt for his role in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the Academy awarded Sean Penn the Oscar for his role in ‘Milk.’
