Viewers Not Impressed with New American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi


DioGuardi more likeable than Cowell, less likeable than Abdul and Jackson

Flemington, NJ, January 22, 2009 – A new study conducted among 271 viewers of  American Idol’s season premiere last week revealed that viewers were not impressed the new judge, Kara DioGuardi. 

Participants rated DioGuardi slightly higher than Simon Cowell on scales of likeability, yet judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson scored significantly higher compared to DioGuardi.
The study was conducted by HCD Research during January 21-22 to obtain viewers’ perceptions of American Idol season 8 and new judge, songwriter and producer, Kara DioGuardi. To view agreement curves and detailed results visit: www.mediacurves.com.
 
When asked why they thought DioGuardi was brought on the show, most viewers (79%) indicated that it was to change up the show and offer something new for viewers. 37% thought it was to offer a fourth opinion at the judges table, and 28% thought it was to eventually replace Paula Abdul as a judge.

While viewing the video clip, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves.
