Moms Are Turning To Blogs, Online Forums and Social Media to Give and Receive Advice, Reviews and Money Saving Ideas

Money Saving Blogs
91% of moms report using one or more forms of social media

Flemington, NJ, October 15, 2009 – A new media study among 300 female internet users who viewed an informational news clip on the recent popularity of blogging among mothers revealed that over a third (37%) of mothers (with children under the age of 18) use blogs and online forums for advice, product reviews and tips.

The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on October 13 to evaluate social media and blogging trends among female internet users, specifically looking at mothers with children under the age of 18.

The most popular type of blogging among mothers are ones that offer advice, product reviews and tips (76% of mom bloggers say they partake in this type of blogging). Among blogging moms, 72% report utilizing personal blogs (personal commentary or online diary).

The study also revealed that 91% of mothers use one or more forms of social media. The most popular social media sites used by mothers include Facebook (80%) and MySpace (44%) while blogs and online forums come in third with 37% usage. 77% of self-declared coupon clipper moms say they receive their coupons and promotions through e-mail.

I research many items before purchasing but I usually don't use blogs for that. I read some blogs but never write in them. I prefer the forums more than blogs or the feedback section that various website have for their products.

Coupon clippers do a lot of work for very little money. I imagine thrift bloggers are actually working for ad money, not just to share tips.

I already use those types of sites, including a couple that were mentioned. The more this stuff gets popular the less cooperative the stores become with coupons in general. It is sort of a double edge sword.
