Nike Tiger Woods Ad
Favorability toward Nike and Tiger Woods declines among viewers

Flemington, NJ, April 8, 2010 – Results from a national media study among 600 Americans revealed that viewers reported feeling confused and skeptical while watching a new Nike ad featuring Tiger Woods.

The study was conducted by HCD Research on April 8, 2010 using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a new ad by Nike that features Tiger Woods and the voice of his late father. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

Leave him alone, it was his personal life and he was entitled to it. He is a golfer, let him golf. He is a husband and a father, let his family deal with it, it is not my or anybody else's business.

This is a personal matter that Tiger Woods and his family have to resolve. I don't think Nike should have used this issue to sell their products. However, it has no reflection either way as to my purchase of their products.

I think that alot of fuss was made about this that is not warrented. Our society is FULL of people who do similar things and yet no one ever cares about it. Society seems selective in who should be and should not be "allowed" to have problems. When certain people do, it is huge, when others do everyone says "leave them alone" Doesn't make sense. Plus, which of you have not done something wrong in your life, but it was never known because someone didn't put it all over the news ?? ALL of you.

I found this commercial to be as if Tiger Woods conscience was speaking to him. He was very close to his father and his father was and will always be an inspirational figure in his life. So, I can truly understand that voice in your head when you do something you know your parents would not approve of or something you know has potentially destroyed your family.

I think this ad really says a lot about Nike. If they had morals they would move on to another approach or personality. However, they are still intent on cashing in on Tiger Woods no matter what he does. I would respect the Nike brand more if they would distance themselves from Tiger. But they won't because their is too much money to be made.

Tiger needs to admit he is at fault, we all can anddo make mistakes and be forgiven, but to make excuses and not truely accept responsibility is just like not telling the truth. His sponsers should demand this of him and do not have to abandon him When they support him unconditionally it makes me have a lesser opinion of the company

I thought the comcremial was interesting on several levels. For Tiger, it certainly emphasized his commitment to returning to his Buddhist philosophy. The retrospection and the communication with his deceased father. So some will say this confirms his promise to work on his personal issues. If you put any credence to the internet traffic about how Elin viewed the ad, it was not so positive. Some reports indicate that she was already upset at his early return to golf and was not happy with the ad. It may be the event that pushes her toward filing for divorce. So time will only tell whether this was a good move for Tiger personally. For Nike, it has certainly generated a lot of buzz. Some say that imitation is the highest form of compliment. If so, Nike definitely has a lot of compliments. Internet tracking firms are reporting that there are more than a million more views of parodies of the ad than the ad itself. So from a memorable marketing ad it clearly was successful. The second part, however, is Nike's image better or worse now than before the ad? For me personally, it is worse for two reasons. First, if it is true that Elin was not happy about this ad, and thought it was in poor taste, then to me that shows that Nike was only concerned about rebuilding Tiger's and Nike's image and not helping him truly restore his relationship with his family. Second, the ad came across very new age to me and so left a bad taste in my mouth for Nike as pushing an agenda that I don't believe in.I recognize I may be in the minority so again, time will only tell if this was a good marketing move for Nike.
